It’s been a brilliant first week for the Baby Name Brainstorm. We launched only eight days ago, and already we’re beginning to see a nice stream of visitors through the blog and to the Brainstormer as well. Thanks in large part to Lola and Nancy who are our top referrers and commentors. Thanks for your support guys.
A big thanks also to everyone who voted in our recent poll to decide the focus of further development on the Brainstormer. Of the four candidate features that were up, it looks like favourites are the current priority so we will be focusing our efforts on that over the next couple of weeks and hopefully bringing out a new version of the tool before Christmas.
Now, If I’m reading our web stats correctly it seems that only a small fraction of the visitors to this blog actually end up finding and launching the Brainstormer. Obviously, this is a great shame, so I’ve tried to raise its profile of the tool further by adding an image preview to the sidebar and on the about page.

Thanks! I’ve mentioned the redesign to a few people and they’ve mentioned it’s easier to find and fn to play with. As Nancy mentionec, not all of us have the luxury of huge monitors and the top & bottom most names are indeed cut off for me. I have a 16″ laptop screen, so take that as something of a start point, perhaps? I’m going to be checking out some of my less common favorites in the next few days (The Holiday is throwing me all out of whack). I tried Ottilie/Ottoline (the nickname version is -line), Pandora (my MIL’s name!) and Tiberius are “not found” in the Brainstorm. (yes, Trekker here). Just a thought. Suggestions for names to be included might be a traffic booster for you too, everyone loves to get their 2 cents in!

Another capital idea. Thanks a lot for all the feedback, it’s really invaluable. We’ve been busy working on a new version of the Brainstormer and are aiming to release it sometime in the next week or two. You’ll be pleased to know the new version will add support for saving favourites and also includes updates to make the graph more usable on smaller screens. I dare say we will next turn our attention to implementing public submission of names.
Actually, I currently hail from New Zealand; so no holiday here yet unfortunately. But we’re all looking forward to Christmas!
